The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the postponement of the Governorship and Houses of Assembly elections previously scheduled to hold on 11 March 2023.
The elections will now hold on 18 March 2023. Campaigns may continue until 16 March 2023, says INEC.
INEC says it is too late to reconfigure BVAS in time for the exercise to hold as initially scheduled. It attributes the delay the suits brought by the Presidential candidates in relation to election data.
Although the Court of Appeal has ruled that INEC may proceed with the reconfiguration, it is no longer possible to conclude the process before the governorship elections.
