United State Government, through her Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, just announced the return of $954,000 stolen by the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, to the state government through the Federal Government.
Mary Beth recalled that the official salary of Alamieyeseigha during his tenure as Governor of Bayelsa from 1999 to 2005, when he was impeached, did not match the looted fund.
The former governor died at the age of 62 in October 2015.
The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, immediately directed that the returned fund be used to develop the health sector of the affected state.
